The ONLY point here is that the draft standards have to be PURCHASED, because they are owned by the ISO organization, are copyrighted and are not materials that are "in the public domain". That's all. Think them as "books" and ISO as their "author". It's not a "moral", "ethical" or even an "environmental" issue. I agree that copyright is not the subject of this list, but the issue was raised and it's important for everyone to know that *all* ISO standards and draft standards are copyrighted and have to be purchased from ANSI or ASQC in this country. [NOTE: This message is being sent to multiple lists, so you may get duplicates. Sorry, but virtually impossible to avoid.] - ------------ Hello! After almost unanimously positive feedback from cybersouls such as yourselves, I have just created a new, moderated but "unfocused" public email discussion list for Quality-related subjects, those that don't have enough of a routine following to justify a list solely devoted to that subject. This is for those times when you have a question to ask that you *know* is Quality-related, but don't know *who* to ask, when you *know* that it's unrelated to TQM, ISO9000, ISO25 or....any of the myriad of other specific Quality topics that currently support focused lists. The name of the list is: "NoCows". The reference is to there being "no sacred (quality) cows" that we can't talk about here. But, keep in mind that the overall topic will still remain QUALITY. Hence, the list is moderated to keep out irrelevant topics--like politics, astronomy and other stuff, unless--in the Moderator's sole opinion--there is a clear and direct relation to the practice or perception of Quality. To receive the information file on this list (which will also tell you how to subscribe to it, posting guidelines and other cool information), address an email message to: majordomo@quality.org with ONLY the following text in the BODY of your message: info NoCows (It's not case-sensitive, so all lowercase will work too.) You can also retrieve the file through gopher, ftp or WWW here at QUALITY.ORG. The ftp directory location is: ftp://ftp.quality.org/pub/qc/lists/nocows.list.FAQ It's in the "Email Lists" sections of both the gopher and WWW sites. Enjoy! This is just to remind you that no one who is not already subscribed to a list here is permitted by the system to post to that list. That means, for example, if you are not a subscriber to the NoCows list, you cannot post to it. (Even if you could, it would gain you no further knowledge, since you wouldn't be able to read the responses, if any.) This policy is in place to reduce as much as possible the risk of the lists being "spammed" by outsiders mass-mailing irrelevant materials to the lists. This will become increasingly important in the coming year as the political campaigns heat up and those from various political points will want to universally broadcast their particular screeds. There are plenty of lists already for non-Quality stuff, so we've tried to reasonably assure that not much will get through on the QUALITY.ORG lists. We expect the subscribers to each of the lists to police and censor themselves, assuring that THEY do not post irrelevant topical materials to their lists. At the sole discretion of the List Administrator--on unmoderated lists, or the List Moderator--for the moderated lists, penalties for violating this policy may escalate all the way up to permanent banishment from the lists on this system. Most times, you'll get a warning from me--in addition to whatever flames your fellow subscribers may desire to visit upon you. Okay, that's about it for this diatribe. To recap: 1. If you don't subscribe to it, you can't post to it. 2. Stick to whatever the subject matter is of the list you're posting to, eg. if it's the ISO25 list, stick to ISO25 matters, etc. Regards.
