This is going out on multiple mailing lists; so, please excuse duplicates if you get them. ==================================== - ---------- Forwarded message ---------- THE NINTH ANNUAL DAMA-NCR DATA MANAGEMENT SYMPOSIUM THEME: IT'S THE ELEVENTH HOUR, DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DATA IS DOING? SPONSORED BY: Data Administration Management Association - National Capital Region (DAMA-NCR) DATES: June 13-14, 1996 GOAL: The goal of the NINTH ANNUAL DAMA-NCR DATA MANAGEMENT SYMPOSIUM is to increase awareness of the impact data has on organizations and their employees by sharing information on effective data management techniques. QUESTIONS/ISSUES The Information Age is exploding around us. The organization with its data under control will increase its odds of succeeding while others, stuck in a morass of conflicting, confusing, and unreliable data will suffer in comparison. How does an organization gain control of its data? How can an organization's data be transformed for use as an asset? Is a data warehouse the answer? Is the object-oriented approach the solution? Can repositories help? What are the implications to data management arising from client-server applications? What are the data aspects of system modernization? What are the problems associated with the year 2000 and what can be done about them? Organizations' efforts to address these problems, their experiences, successes, frustrations, and lessons learned will be shared. To address these areas, the Symposium features exciting presentations by internationally recognized experts and practitioners. Join your colleagues for what promises to be the most exciting and worthwhile DAMA-NCR Symposium yet. Hi Sports Fans, Several of you obviously have a Department of Defense background and are familiar with the QA requirements like MIL-Q. Several of you have no Government contractor experience but have been involved with ISO9000 implmentation. Several of you have been involved with the SEI/CMM approach, some as commercial and some as Government contractors. Which QA organizational structure do you believe works best, not only for the company and its products, but also for the moral and longevity of the QA professionals career/position? Some say independance and autonomy? Some say inline QA is O.K.? Some say the only independant QA person you need is the Internal Auditor? How say you all? These are some of the questions that we continuously asked ourselves and others and were not able to get objective answers. One project that integrates all the models refered above is SPICE (Software Process Improvement and Capability dEtermination), an iniciative from ISO/IEC SC7 (subcomitee on software engineering). For all of you involved in Software Process Improvement, Software Quality Assurance and/or Software Aquisition please take note of the following landmark event: The INTERNATIONAL SPICE SYMPOSIUM '96 will take place at the paradisiac Acapulco in Mexico and will offer a unique oportunity for the Software comunity in general to learn about the SPICE Proyect and the latest developments from the project participants themselves. Among the information available: SPICE document set, assessment tool, up to date trials results, and information on trials participation. You should be able to answer all your questions and concerns about SPICE and its impact on the software comunity, first hand, from the project leaders and participants.
