| ISO 9000 -- Where Is It Going? By Peter Paddrik What is ISO 9000? ISO 9000 is a set Quality Assurance Management System guidelines which have been adopted by over 80 countries including Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. It has long been recognized that purchasing across national (and even continental) boundaries can cause difficulties in many areas: delivery, cashflow, specification, installation and, most especially, quality. It is also a fact of life that purchasing another company's product to either use or incorporate into your product can cause difficulties even if that seller is next door. Various means have been devised over the years to counter these problems: extensive incoming inspection, second party audits, just-in-case purchasing to provide a buffer, unrealistic master schedules and extended lead times. |

| Excerpts from Leading the Way to Competitive Excellence: The Harris Mountaintop Case Study Culture is an unspoken set of mutual beliefs, values, attitudes, and expectations that guide the behavior of organization members. Courchaine and Williams (1992) refer to the "…values and beliefs that influence day-to-day behavior and operations." A strong, positive culture is a requirement for total quality management (TQM) and continuous improvement. |

| About Design Review, Design Verification and Design Validation Someone may feel difficult to distinguish the terms "Design Review", "Design Verification" and "Design Validation" in ISO 9001 as they look like similiar. In fact, they can be combined into one step. But in the most cases, it is better to consider them differently. |

| ISO 9000 for Small Companies With creative use of resources and the help of experts, small companies can overcome obstacles on the path to ISO 9000 registration.
