| Survey on ISO 9000 Quality Management System Implementation in Hong Kong; S. F. Lee, Paul Roberts and W. S. Lau The reasons for the high level of interest in quality standards and quality management have arisen because of the continued growth in world trade and the need for an ever-increasing strategy of countries to have access to the world markets. The far-reaching political changes in many countries, coupled with the transition to market economies and the desire to participate in the global market place contribute well to the interest. The design of questions in the questionnaire was based on the people's thinking, concepts or philosophies of the published ISO quality standards. The amalgamation of these useful thoughts, concepts and philosophies would help in developing some quality management strategies that will lead to business excellence performance. This paper outlines the methodologies and bases used in the design of questionnaire for the investigation of ISO 9000 quality management system status in Hong Kong. | Auto Makers Drive New Quality Standards If you think ISO 9000 certification provides enough quality assurance for your customers, think again. By Amanda Loudin, Editorial Associate If, like many warehouses, you've just gone through the process of becoming ISO 9000 certified, congratulations. But don't rest on your laurels just yet. If your facility is connected to one of the 20,000 Tier One (direct) suppliers or one of the estimated 60,000 to 90,000 Tier Two or Three (indirect) suppliers to the Big Three automotive manufacturers, you've got more standards to face. The standards in question are QS 9000, for which certification is required by all three automotive giants, and MS 9000, for which only Ford requires compliance, but not certification. According to the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), Southland, MI, QS 9000 (Quality System Requirements) is a fundamental quality system that provides for continuous improvement, with emphasis on defect prevention and the reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain. MS 9000 (Materials Management System Requirements), is a Ford document that the company selectively applies to suppliers with large inventories.
