| EVALUATING ISO 9000 FOR YOUR COMPANY Believe it or not, a school system has been registered compliant with ISO 9000! Such broad acceptance of this standard is indicative of the usefulness of ISO 9000 and something all companies should consider. ISO 9000 can and does apply to everyone; regardless of size or the nature of the business. ISO 9000 is rapidly becoming one of the world's most widely known and highly used mechanisms for demonstrating a commitment to quality. Currently there are over 300,000 registrations, world-wide, in all facets of business (with approximately 2,500 - 3,500 registrations in South Africa). Considering that there were only 200+ in 1992, the program is showing a remarkable growth rate. | Quality Technical Books the Online Bookstore Offers Discounts on Technical Books |
| Implementing Quality Management Systems in Nursing Homes by Peter Reeves Introduction to Quality Management Systems A Quality Management System provides a way for Management to give direction to staff without removing the sense of ownership and initiative that is now vital to the success of all organisations. It is no longer practical for managers to watch over the activities of staff or to appoint supervisors to monitor if and when people are performing. In Australia today we have a workforce that is motivated to produce high quality work. Providing Management does not have systems in place that make it difficult to produce quality results, the staff of the organisation will endeavour to delight both the customer and the manager. | ISO 9000 QUALITY SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT from Innovation Business Services |

| How to cope with ISO 9000 while doing your job Managers and engineers don't have to be running an ISO 9000 quality program to feel its effect. When implemented properly, ISO 9000 is a culture change that affects an entire organization. Mid-level managers may find themselves serving on ISO 9000 implementation teams, organizing an ISO 9000 effort within their department or at the very least documenting their own work procedures. Those who are experienced with the process warn that it is time- consuming. As John Sala, project manager at Rexam Graphics points out, management has to be aware that ISO 9000 represents additional work and be prepared to back up its organization. | See what

| Several Questions before You Write Writing of documented procedures and instructions is a necessary step for implementing ISO 9000 series standard. Some organizations shall employ consultants to do this step and some organizations shall use the standard documents which are available in the "text books". However, is it necessary or is it a good way to prepare your documents? In BS 7850: Part 1: 1992, three terms are described and are very useful for us to prepare documents in a clear way - Process Owner, Customer and Supplier. If you need to write a procedure now, you are probably the Process Owner of this working step. The first thing you need to consider is what the product of this step is. The term "product" is not meant the final product of the organization but it is the product of this step only. For example, if your proposed procedure is titled as "Assessment of Vendors", the "product" may be the "result of assessment" or even a "approved vendors list". | Are you considering building,
