I am a product manager with Diebold Inc. and have been at this position for 1.5 years. I come from a background in biomedical engineering (MS from U. Va.) and management (MBA from Syracuse). I do some management consulting in my off-hours and specialize in new product development for high-tech entrepreneurial companies. I am a member of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) and New Product Development Association. I'm considering going into consulting on a full-time basis and thought I could learn something from the group. I look forward to connecting with you all. I have a degree in Metallurgical Engineering and am certified as both a Quality Engineer (CQE) and Reliability Engineer (CRE) by the American Society for Quality Control. I have twenty years experience in heavy equipment manufacturing having worked in a variety of positions in materials laboratories, design engineering, and manufacturing areas including heat treating, machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, etc. My career has been split between Deere and Company and my current employer, PACCAR Inc. Although my current title is Quality Improvement Manager, a more descriptive one might be Internal Consultant in Quality and Reliability Engineering. I spend my time providing training and "hands-on" application assistance to all of our divisions in QE and RE activities. (For alphabet soup lovers that's stuff like SPC, FMEA, DOE, QFD, TQM... :-) In my position I constantly face the challenges of "selling" concepts, techniques, and methodologies to a wide variety of "buyers" at all levels of diverse organizations within the company. Part of the challenge is "buyers" who often have no idea how badly they need the "product". As an *internal* consultant there is sometimes the "homegrown vs. outside expert" hurdle to jump as well. My interest in this forum is to exchange ideas with others facing similar circumstances. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ \ Bob Rock \ e-mail: brock@techcenter.paccar.com \ \ PACCAR Technical Center \ bobrokk@aol.com \ \ 1261 Farm-to-Market Road \ Phone: (360)757-5318 \ \ Mount Vernon, WA 98273 \ FAX: (360)757-5370 \ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ============================================================================= Date: Fri, 17 Mar 95 16:06 EST From: David Reynolds Subject: Introduction My name is David Reynolds and I am a Union Representative currently on vacation to work on my B.Comm degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN).My areas of concentration are IR and HRM and I'm doing some course work in OD>I plan to do post-graduate studies, most likely in Industrial Relations though I haven't identified yet where I'll be pursuing my Masters. My long range plan is to move into dispute resolution and to broaden my scope beyond the IR\LR areas.I plan to gradually establish a consultancy in the area of dispute resolution over the next few years. I look forward to the information that will be shared on the list particularly as it relates to establishing a consulting practice.Although I would suspect that my background differs somewhat from most of the other participants I imagine that, like the Toronto Maple Leafs, the list could use at least one good left- winger.
