Worldwide ISO9000 Email Discussion List Information --------------------------------------------------- Subject: Admin: ISO 9000 Discussion List--Policies and Procedures Version 1.0 ISO 9000 Discussion List January 25, 1995 Policies and Procedures CarlsonW@UWSTOUT.EDU Dr. Wallace Carlson, Senior Editor Jennejohnn@UWSTOUT.EDU Nancy Jennejohn, list moderator Schulere@UWSTOUT.EDU Tony Schuler, editor and moderator Welcome to ISO 9000, a list dedicated to the discussion of the ISO 9000 Standards. My name is Tony Schuler and I am the List Editor. I can be reached at SchulerE@UWSTOUT.EDU. The ISO 9000 Standards Discussion list is for those sharing and exchanging ISO 9000 information and experiences. Discussion includes: who is doing what, what the successes and concerns have been, what systems, methods, software and structures have been beneficial, identified and required solutions, long and short term strategies, who have you partnered with, educational methods and programs that have worked, policy and structural issues, assessments and corrective actions, customer and registrar comments and concerns, etc... The list engages in discussing and describing what is happening now, and focuses on what the ISO 9000 should look like in the future and why. Participants are invited to post notes, questions, comments, concerns, ideas, and especially information and suggestions which enable us all to better understand and use the benefits that the ISO 9000 family of quality standard provides. ISO 9000 is a moderated list. This means that all posts will be reviewed and/or edited before being distributed to the list membership. Subject headings from the list will contain the subject of the posting, and the person who originated the message. Example: ISO 9000 Registrars/Schuler. All ISO 9000 list released messages will be identified as being from JennejohnN@uwstout.edu. ---------- Some things to remember before posting to the ISO 9000 discussion list: - Direct list operation or use questions to Schulere@UWSTOUT.EDU. This allows me to respond quicker to inquiries. - All messages should be sent to CarlsonW@UWSTOUT.EDU or JennejohnN@UWSTOUT.EDU or ISO9000@vm1.nodak.edu. - Moderated lists experience delays. There will be a delay between the time you send the message to the list and the time other members receive the posts. The amount of traffic on the list dictates the length of time until the message is distributed. - Advertising and promotion of products and services is not acceptable. If a post contains what is deemed as advertising, it will be deleted. - It is acceptable to discuss products and services if the intent is to convey information regarding satisfaction/dissatisfaction of the product or service. - It is acceptable to announce a request for information or services from members as long as the subsequent conversations take place privately. Do not post personal responses to the list. When responding to a survey or questionaire send the response to the individual that requested it, not the list. - When responding to previous posted messages, it is always a good idea to quote portions of a previous message. This does not mean the entire message with headers should be included, but those lines that are relevant. It helps if proper attribution (who said the quoted material) is given. Also, try to avoid quoting large tracts of text and simply adding an "I agree!" line with no additional information. A good rule of thumb is not to have more quoted text than new material. Of course, content is always more important than style so these suggestions may not apply. - Please remember that you are responding to another person or persons. Professionalism in posts is appreciated by the list editor. Attempts at flaming individuals or companies will be deleted. - When quoting reference material, please state your references. - At the end of each post, it would be appreciated if you would state your name and email address as a minimum. This allows others to identify the authorship of the post. - Abbreviations. While many users of the internet are comfortable with the most arcane and obscure acronyms and abbreviations, many members of the list are first time internet users. First time users are generally unaware of these commonly used abbreviations. Please expand these terms at least once in your post. Example: CSA means Canadian Standards Association. - Please do not add the ISO 9000 list to your mailing list. ---------- Some questions that are frequently asked and that should be avoided. Q. Where are the ISO 9000 standards available for downloading? A. ISO 9000 standards are not available for download. The standards are copyrighted. Standards can be purchased in the United States through: American Society for Quality Control PO Box 3005 Milwaukee, WI 53201-3005 1-800-248-1946 Fax:1-414-272-1734 American National Standards Institute 11 East 42nd St. New York, NY 10036 1-212-642-4900 Fax:1-212-302-1286 International Organization for Standardization Case postale 56, CH-1211 Geneve 20, Switzerland +41 22 749 01 11 Fax:+41 22 733 34 30 It would be appreciate if members could supply ordering information for other countries. Q. Please send me any or all information that you have on ISO 9000. A. Too broad of a question. If you would like to obtain background, historical, or general information regarding ISO, the discussion list archives are a good place to start. (See arvhives listed below) In addition a valuable resource we use often is, "The ISO 9000 Handbook," edited by Robert W. Peach (ISBN 1-883337-27-5). Q. Why was I deleted from the list? A. Generally members are deleted from the list because of too many bounced mail messages. If you were deleted and wish to continue, please subscribe again. The listserv also targets certain accounts for auto-deletion. If this is the case, the only remedy is to subscribe again. If anyone feels that there are other frequently asked questions that need to be addressed, please respond to schulere@uwstout.edu. I would welcome new additions. ----------- Listserv Normally the listserv will want you to subscribe from your own account rather than having me add you to the list. This allows the software to confirm mailing routes as I don't always get your full address in the mail. Contact Schulere@uwstout.edu if listserv gives you any problems and we will seek a solution. ---------- Listserv Commands SUBSCRIPTION INFORMATION : All messages are to go: Listserv@VM1.nodak.edu (internet) Send the following commands in the body of the message. The commands need to be on separate lines however. ---------- ISO 9000 Related Lists There are several ISO 9000 related lists. In the future, I would like to post the names of the lists and subscription information. I am requesting that members send me a copy of relevant related list information. Examples would be ISO25, WWW:, Quality.Org, Quality@Pucc. Please send list information to schulere@uwstout.edu. Example: ISO9000: Discussion of ISO 9000 Standards listserv@vm1.nodak.edu sub iso9000 (your name) ---------- Copyright Copyright issues are a major concern on the Internet. The ISO 9000 discussion list will treat any received information as being an authorized and appropriate release. If specific rights to intellectual property are identified by the message sender they will be posted and observed. Normal copyright procedures should be observed and any specific requirements relative to copyright should be identified by the sender. Any reference to or extraction of information from the ISO 9000 discussion list be identified as originating with and being part of the ISO 9000 list. We will freely allow reproduction of material from the list within a not-for-profit and free information exchange. All quotations should be taken as written and appropriately cited. Specific questions and requests should be asked to Carlsonw@uwstout.edu. ---------- Conclusion This is the first draft of the ISO 9000 discussion list general policies and procedures. I would appreciate any feedback and can be reached at the address below. Tony Schuler, List Editor Schulere@uwstout.edu
