Introducing the CQI Membership Council

We are pleased to announce that the inaugural meeting of the new CQI Membership Council took place in September.

The Council will play an important role in ensuring that the voice of members is represented at the very highest level of the CQI governance structure.

Previously, members have been represented through the Advisory Council and the Regional Operations Panel, both of which have played a key role in forging the identity of the new body; uniting them in the aim of assisting the CQI in meeting its strategic objective of ‘excellence as a professional body’.

Responsibilities enshrined in the CQI Charter, such as appointing the CQI Board of Trustees, hearing Code of Conduct appeals, and ensuring the Board adheres to the Charter and bye-laws were until now fulfilled by the Advisory Council.

Meanwhile, supporting and leading the CQI’s professional network, as well as advising the Board on matters relevant to the membership, were discharged through the Regional Operations Panel.

By bringing the responsibilities of both the Advisory Council and Regional Operations Panel together under the Membership Council, the CQI has gained a single coherent body capable of supporting the membership and the Board of Trustees, and giving members a direct line into the governance of the CQI.

The initial representatives on the Council are the former members of both the Advisory Council and Regional Operations Panel. In the future Members can be elected through the branch structure with the chairs of the regional steering committees forming part of the Council. Additional seats on the Membership Council will be recruited on the basis of the skills, knowledge and competences required by the Council.

At the September meeting it was agreed that until June 2018 the Council will be working under interim arrangements as the former members of the Advisory Council and Regional Operations Panel work together to ensure that that there is a smooth transition.

We will keep you updated with news and progress on how the Membership Council is working on your behalf. In the meantime, if you would any further information please email [email protected].
