Pratima Mahajan, Quality Assurance Professional and IRCA Certificated ISO 9001 Internal Auditor, shares what she gained from an early transition.
IRCA auditors who use ISO 9001 have until 1 September 2018 to complete transition training to stay certified. The deadline applies to auditors certificated on IRCA Quality Management Systems, Environmental Management Systems, Pharmaceutical Quality Management Systems, Maritime Safety Management Systems and Aerospace Scheme.

Summarise your professional background.
I have a BSc in Biotechnology and a Masters in Medical Microbiology. I moved from my role as Acting BMS3 (Biomedical Scientist 3) into quality assurance in 2009 and never looked back. I have experience of auditing to standards and regulations as an auditor and auditee with various departments and organisations. I am involved with CPA (Clinical Pathology Accreditation), MHRA (Medical Health Regulatory Agency), HTA (Human Tissue Authority), EFI (European Federation for Immunogenetics), JACIE (Joint Accreditation Committee-ISCT & EBMT) and ISO audits.
Why did you choose to transition to ISO 9001:2015 early?
I chose to transition to ISO 9001:2015 early to get on with the new standards and bring the business up-to-date with the current thinking. I also did it to gain a personal understanding of the requirements for myself.
What value did you see in retaining your IRCA certification?
My IRCA certification gives me the confidence that I can maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge as a quality professional. It also makes me proud of what I do, how I do it and what I have achieved so far in my career. Retaining my IRCA certification makes me proud of doing what I do best as a professional – an auditor.
What types of clients are you currently working with?
My clients are in the pharmaceutical and media business.
