CQI to influence technical committee on organisational governance

Progress indicator

Published: 25 May 2017

The CQI has been granted Category A Liaison status on ISO/TC 309, the technical committee responsible for standards relating to the governance of organisations.

The CQI is proud to be recognised for its effective contribution to the work of ISO/TC 309, the technical committee created in 2016 to standardise governance relating to aspects of direction, control and accountability of organisations.

These should help organisations demonstrate commitment to stakeholders through evidence and reporting and encourage governing bodies to make the right decisions.

The technical committee is responsible for four standards:

  • Whistleblowing
  • Anti-bribery
  • Compliance, and
  • Governance of Organisations

By participating in TC 309, the CQI is an excellent position to ensure the priorities of its individual and corporate members are represented in standards which codify the good governance of organisations.

The CQI will be able to continue its role in leading the governance debate, which has involved sitting on the Institute of Director’s (IoD) governance advisory panel and helping the IoD research and develop standards for good corporate governance.

The CQI's Competency Framework is also specifically designed to support organisation-wide implementation of good governance.

Since gaining Category A Liaison status, the initial focus for the CQI will be on the development of an ISO standard on organisational governance.

The CQI has an active involvement in the development of the following ISO standards:

  1. ISO 9004 - Quality management - Quality of an organization - Guidance to achieve sustained success
  2. ISO 19011 - Guidelines for auditing management systems
  3. ISO/DIS2 45001 - Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems
  4. BS 45004 - Occupational health & safety management systems - general guidelines for the effective application of ISO 45001
  5. ISO 27000 - Information Security Management Systems (ISMS)
  6. ISO 9001:2015 - Quality management systems – Requirements
  7. ISO/IEC 17021-3:2017 - Conformity assessment - Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems - Part 3: Competence requirements for auditing and certification of quality management systems.
