The CQI responds to the UK government's industrial strategy green paper
In response to the UK Government's green paper on the planned UK industrial strategy, the CQI makes the case for quality management and the quality ecosystem.
The CQI expresses disappointment in the failure of the UK government’s green paper to include quality management and the quality ecosystem.
While the green paper briefly acknowledges the importance of the UK competing on quality, it fails to provide policy details on quality management.
The green paper excludes detailed plans to support the UK industry’s ability to deliver superior, quality products and services to domestic and global markets, and commitment to improving efficiency and effectiveness to drive productivity growth. Ultimately, to ‘compete on quality.’
We strongly believe excluding the integral link between quality management and the desire to grow competitiveness and productivity is a critical oversight – and will compromise the UK’s industrial ambition.
Vince Desmond, CEO, CQI
We urgently call on the UK government to include the following critical success factors in the industrial strategy:
- grow quality skills across the economy
- grow awareness of quality management
- grow a culture of quality within UK industry
- align voluntary standards and regulation with competitiveness
- align industry and the public sector
The government must maximise the UK’s position as a global leader in quality, its existing world-class quality infrastructure and ecosystem, and integrate quality principles across wider policy areas.
Collaboratively, the government and industry can set the tone for driving quality innovation and improvement at pace, competing on quality and generating high growth.
